The Senior Research Engineer (Sr RE) is part of the Scientific Affairs team at ATEC. The Sr RE has a degree in engineering and is responsible for design, development, and organizing clinical research activities related to ATEC/EOS products. In this capacity the Sr RE works closely with the Clinical Research, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing teams at ATEC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Sr RE participates in defining the clinical research in order to demonstrate the value of ATEC products.
  • Develop data analytics, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms for variety of data type analysis including but not limited to including medical images, clinical data, sensors, and other biologics data sources.
  • Manages various aspects of research studies, from design, writing protocols, data collection and analysis, study reports and documentations, and publications.
  • Performs data cleaning, including identifying potential problems with study data, and collaborates with study sites/data sources to resolve issues encountered.
  • Creates datasets for internal investigations. Writes detailed documents/specifications for analyzing datasets and related files.
  • Develops exploratory algorithms and proofs of concept that can inform internal and external research and/or guide development with incorporation of these solutions in ATEC software products.

  • Proficient in one or more programming software and languages including MATLAB, Python, R.
  • Proficient in scientific writing and code documentation best practices.
  • Superior problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of scientific research and analytical methods.
  • Knowledge of medical imaging systems, medical images, medical image analysis, sensors, and related data processing.
  • Experience in multimodal data analysis, machine learning, deep learning and statistical learning
  • Expertise in data management and working with databases.
  • Experience peer-reviewed literature retrieval and publishing.
  • Clinical research experience, including protocol development, particularly in orthopedics/spine, is a plus.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of the conduct of clinical investigations involving humans in accordance ICH/GCP, US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the ethical principles that guide clinical research consistent with the principles of the Nuremberg Code, the Belmont Report and the Declaration of Helsinki.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with department guidelines.
  • Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of procedures, products, and activities in assigned areas.
  • Ability to travel and to independently manage travel schedule and logistics.
  • Superior organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to keep accurate records.

  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Education and Experience

Minimum Master of Science degree in engineering (mechanical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or related fields) with at least three years of experience, or a PhD in engineering or sciences with at least 1 year of work or independent research experience.

 

For roles based in the United States that require access to hospital facilities, must be eligible for and maintain credentials at all required hospitals, including meeting any applicable physical requirements or vaccination requirements (including the COVID-19 vaccine, as applicable).

Salary Range

Alphatec Spine, Inc. complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $95,000 to $120,000 Full-Time Annual Salary
