About the role

The vision of the Machine Learning (ML) Engineering team at Zip is to drive and enable ML usage across the company and at all stages of our product’s life cycle. You’ll be in charge of making that vision a reality as we fundamentally believe machine learning engineering is the engine of our world-class data science and will lead us as a company.

As the Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will be the connective tissue between data engineering, data science, product, and software engineering. Supporting our Data Science teams in data sourcing, cleaning and access, FeatureStore, model development, and model observability. Build automation and productionization, and provide ML Eng consultancy to all parties. You will work on cross-functional products and push the envelope on data and ML-focused solutions.

 

What your day will look like:

  • Help in identifying data gaps and mismatches in the MLE platform - 1:1 alignment between MLE platform data and production data served to model.

  • Builds robust framework for model and variables monitoring 

  • Replatform model deployment - Working with different data patterns/sources/warehouses, model deployment (API service deployments in ML) 

  • Able to roll up your sleeve and help the ML team understand how to build models in a new platform/framework

  • Data pipeline & Model monitoring- automates the model monitoring and helps helps deploy robust data pipelines & dashboard; guides the junior-level MLEs/analysts 

  • Owns/Manages Daily decisioning processes (helps Zip sustain/maintain our platform in terms of profitability) 

  • Efficiently guides/coaches the team

  • As a Senior MLE II - you will be an influencer on the roadmap for MLE and lay out the framework for migrating to a more robust MLE platform by closely working with Data Engineering, Infrastructure and risk/engineering teams

 

To help us level up, you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience building machine learning systems in applied settings

  • Solid understanding of common ML problems and solutions, such as classification, clustering, data processing, feature engineering, modelling, training, evaluation, etc.

  • Extensive experience in ML Ops, including the design, implementation, optimization, management, and maintenance of ML pipelines. A proven track record in ML engineering; designing and implementing ML systems

  • Expertise with ML infrastructure, Ops, ML pipelines,  algorithms, statistical methods, and analytics to solve real-world engineering problems

  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in ML Ops, familiarity with (CI/CD) practices and tools

  • Experience with building container-based systems;  relational and dimensional data modelling techniques

  • Proven software engineering skills across multiple languages Python, R, C/C++, etc., and ML packages (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Caffe, Theano, Torch)

  • Experience in cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • Experience in Agile Development, such as sprint planning, project management, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills this team’s for you

 

Nice to have

  • Experience with Managed ML, such as Azure ML, AWS Sagemaker, etc.

  • Experience with feature stores such as Feast, Feathr, etc.

  • Familiarity with (CI/CD) practices and tools

  • Experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, and Snowflake Data Cloud

  • Experience with managing containerized services (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services

The Pay Range for this position: $161,000.00 - $222,000.00 USD based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Pay Range: $161,000 - $222,000 USD
